“And while Republic of Doyle usually goes in more for the comedy and happy endings, there’s no denying the seasons have gotten progressively darker as the show’s gone on. Sean McGinley, who plays Mal and was also at the screening, says this season will offer up both at some new extremes. ‘The stakes are higher in terms of it’s funnier and it’s darker at the same time,’ he said, before adding that Hawco’s description of the final series as a ten-part feature film fits the upcoming season perfectly—not that any of that offers reassurances about the fate of Leslie and Jake.”
